Info

The initial description indicates that the coral is orange, reddish, to bluish in color and has a dark purple inner layer.
It is branched in one plane, irregularly feather-shaped and without a main stem. Several main branches rise from the very small base, which immediately branch out and form anastomoses.

We were able to determine the following dimensions: height 210 mm; width 95 mm; base 5 mm wide.

The new species is closely related to Leptogorgia viminalis (Pallas, 1766) (formerly Lophogorgia occidafricana Stiasny, 1936).

The shrimp Pseudocoutierea wirtzi d'Udekem d'Acoz, 2001 lives commensally in the gorgonian, and the gorgonian-dwelling barnacle Conopea saotomensis Carrison-Stone, Van Syoc, Williams & Simison, 2013 also occurs in Leptogorgia gaini.

Synonym: Lophogorgia gaini Stiasny, 1940 · unaccepted (original combination)
