After the winter storms and surf wash away the beach, it all gets returned to the beach in summer, here burying part of the kelp which had washed ashore.Interesting at least to me: on a few of the stipes (far left & at top center) you can see the Seaweed Limpet, Discurria insessa, which lives ONLY on this species of kelp.

Egregia menziesii (Turner) Areschoug, 1876

The Feather-boa Kelp is usually dark brown to olive green in colour. This kelp can grow to a total length of 20 m, though usually grows to about 10 m.

The limpet Discurria insessa feeds on Egregia menziesii as well as its epiphytes.
