The German name for the family "Hypopterus" is "Riesenbarsche", why Hypopterus macropterus with a length of just under 14cm can be called a giant perch must be left open here.
Usually giant perch have a size between 45cm and two meters, they are voracious predators.

Hypopterus macropterus lives benthopelagically in sandy seagrass habitats along the central coast of Western Australia in the Eastern Indian Ocean.

Features
The nostrils on both sides of the head are widely spaced, the lower margin of the preoperculum has a single spine at an angle, and the animal has large scales on the posterior portion of the upper jaw.

The head and body of the perch are olive brown, darker above the lateral line and on the back of the head, lighter on the ventral side. On the belly there is a light silvery sheen with eight indistinct bands of ovoid dark spots in the center of each scale on the head and body.

Etymology:
The species name "macropterus" has been derived from the Greek word makros = "large" and "pteron" = wing or fin.
