The southern bastard codling or bearded red codis a morid cod of the genus Pseudophycis, found around southern Australia including Tasmania, and New Zealand.

Feeds mainly on benthic crustaceans.

Similar to Pseudophycis breviuscula (Bastard Red Cod) and Lotella rhacina (Beardie).
