Commonly called a mermaid fan, this plant is a real eye-catcher for a planted reef tank. It is a beautiful, green calcareous macroalgae that has a dark green fan-shaped tip at the end of its stems. It persists with rhizoids in the substrate, in sandy and muddy areas in lagoons and bays, and is often found in seagrass beds.
General care:
This pretty, calcareous alga is rarely seen in the trade and, when available, must be placed in bright, lightly flowed areas.
As with other algae of this species, calcium levels and alkalinity must be closely monitored.
