Heteropia minor Burton, 1930

The genus Heteropia currently includes only 6 scientifically described species.

Heteropia minor does not resemble the typical image of a sponge in any way. You could mistake this sponge for a sea squirt. Due to its special shape, the sponge is colloquially referred to as "sea bagpipes".

The sponge is a filter feeder.
