Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Sarcophyton cherbonnieri are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Sarcophyton cherbonnieri, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Sarcophyton cherbonnieri, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

Unfortunately, there is no technically relevant information about the biology of the leather coral Sarcophyton cherbonnieri and its possible suitability for a large marine aquarium.
Even the color of the living coral, presumably a light beige-brown, is also not known, only in its preserved state.

The consistency of the colonies is firm, the polyps cover the entire upper side of the polyp.

In medical science, however, the leather coral appears to be of great value as it has anti-inflammatory effects in human medicine.

Synonym: Sarcophytum cherbonnieri Tixier-Durivault, 1958
