Info

Microcrustaceans such as Dimorphostylis pilocorpus, copepods and amphipods are among the most important zooplankton species that are part of the diet of fish larvae at different size stages.
Despite modern examination techniques, the total number of all these small crustaceans is not known, so that new species can always be introduced.

The specimens shown were collected with a light trap (Holmes and O'Connor 1988; Kim 1992) around the islands of Dokdo and Ulleung (East Sea), Korea.

The new species name Pilocorpus is composed of the Latin words "pilósus" for "hairy or shaggy" and "corpus" for "body" and refers to the body surface, which is covered with numerous slender, simple setae.
