Info

Haliclystus octoradiatus James-Clark, 1863

Haliclystus octoradiatus is found in shallow coastal areas in the cooler waters of the North Atlantic.

Haliclystus octoradiatus is a small eight-rayed jellyfish that can grow to 5 cm high and 3 cm wide. Like all members of the family, Haliclystus octoradiatus has a long stalk and a relatively flat umbrella. The tentacle arms, each with eight clusters of stinging capsules, are located on the edge of the umbrella.

The color of Haliclystus octoradiatus is variable and can be light gray, gray to light yellow, yellow and even brown. The color depends on the color of the sea grasses and algae on which the jellyfish sits. Haliclystus octoradiatus has a suction cup with which it attaches itself to the substrate. It is also able to change location.

Haliclystus octoradiatus eat small invertebrates, amphipods, and sea spiders.
