Info
Porites hawaiiensis is an encrusting stony coral that can be found in small crevices or shaded vertical surfaces exposed to the surf.
The coral is quite small with a maximum size of 10 cm, its corallites are correspondingly small (approx. 0.7 mm in diameter), not moderately spacious and have the same septal configuration as Porites rus. The consteum of the coral is covered with pronounced spinules.
Color: Porites hawaiiensis is yellow and mottled green-brown.
Similar species: Porites rus has very similar corallites that are more widely spaced, lack conspicuous coenosteum spines and form large colonies.
Formerly Porites hawaiiensis was known as Porites sp.cf. bernardi.
Due to its very small distribution area, it is unlikely that this stony coral will be available in the German trade.
