Info

Ostichthys archiepiscopus is a benthic species that probably occurs mainly over hard substrate and is caught by anglers, only very rarely are landings made using trawls

As with many deep-water species, to which Ostichthys archiepiscopus also belongs, the usual known information is very limited and very incomplete, which will in any case be due to the species' deep distribution.
At present, there is not even any data on its diet or biology, and the information available on its preferred water depth also varies greatly:

FishBase: 90 - 640 meters
IUCN Red List of Threatened Species: 146 - 400 meters
Research Gate: 146-360 meters

Ostichthys archiepiscopus appears to inhabit only scattered locations, but the soldierfish, which is a good swimmer, is likely to be much more widespread than previously realized

The coloration of live animals is a strong red with a faint whitish longitudinal banding after scale rows.
