Info

Thor leptochelus (Xu & Li, 2015)

The type locality for the description of Thor leptochelus is the South China Sea. Habitat: No association with other invertebrates has been observed. Individual specimens have been observed in reef crevices, but only at night. When exposed to light, they immediately attempted to hide.

The coloration of Thor leptochelus in life appears to be distinctive, particularly the milky white cephalothorax and the three anterior pleomeres, as well as the translucent three posterior pleomeres and the tail fan (telson + uropods), which creates the strange impression that only half of the shrimp's body is visible.

Colour: white with translucent rostrum and tail

Unfortunately, the diet of this shrimp, which is only a few millimeters in size, is unknown. The size refers to its shell, which is described as very robust.

Thor leptochelus is common known as the "rubble mimic shrimp," meaning a shrimp whose appearance imitates small pebbles.
