Cryptochiton stelleri (von Middendorff, 1847)

Cryptochiton stelleri, commonly known as the gumboot chiton or the giant western firey chiton, is the largest of the chitons of the world. This chiton grows to 36 cm and over 2 kg.

This chiton inhabit rocky coastlines.Cryptochiton stelleri have eight armored plates (valves) running in a flexible line down their back. The colour is usually reddish-brown, brown, and occasionally orange.
