Lopha cristagalli (Linnaeus, 1758)
This species usually grows to around 10 to 20 cm in size and lives on hard substrates (rocks and coral reefs) at depths of 5-30 meters. Distribution: tropical Indo-West Pacific also East Africa, Red Sea & Persian Gulf, Japan & Indonesia as well as Micronesia. Easily recognizable by the clear zig-zag pattern. It is also known that this cockscomb oyster can form pearls. This occurs in response to the invasion of foreign bodies.
