Info

Reteporella grimaldii (Jullien, 1903)

Moss animals are also called bryozoa or polyzoa. They are multicellular animals that live in water. Moss animals are usually microscopic, so that only colonies are visible to the naked eye.

Reteporella grimaldii is also colloquially called Neptune's veil. The colonies have net-like, fragile (brittle) structures and stand upright. Neptune's veil is a delicate salmon pink or pale yellow color.

Reteporella grimaldii occurs in shaded areas, in shallow water in caves and crevices, where it protects itself from damage. In deeper water, the colonies also grow outside protective caves.
