Husbandry

The species name "luxuria" comes from Latin and means "abundance", which was aptly chosen in reference to the numerous bright bars on the body.
Nectamia luxuria is found near the coast up to outer reef lagoons.
During the day, the cardinalfish hides deep in coral, usually in small groups.

The yellow tips on the perch's fins are particularly striking, and a broad dark stripe at the base of the tail is also noticeable.
Over the body many narrow, vertical grey stripes are visible.

Cardinalfish are, with a few exceptions, nocturnal, this also applies to Nectamia luxuria, which goes hunting for zooplankton at nightfall.
