Info
Girella stuebeli is the only Atlantic member of the Girellidae, a family otherwise restricted to the Indo-Pacific, and provides insights into the evolutionary history of this diverse group of omnivores and herbivores (antitropical species).
Girella stuebeli feeds mainly on algae and aquatic plants, but also involuntarily ingests various invertebrates.
When searching for Girella stuebeli, Girella zonata (Verdean Nibbler) is often referred to, but this is a different species that also occurs around the Cape Verdean Islands.
We would like to thank Prof. Dr. Peter Wirtz for his two photos.
Synonym: Girella stubeli Troschel, 1866 · unaccepted (misspelling)
