Most specimens of Apogon caudicinctus are shy and have been collected living in caves and crevices.
The color is brownish with darker banding below the end of the second dorsal fin and at the end of the tail peduncle.
Etymology:
The species name “caudicinctus” comes from the Latin word “cauda” for tail and “cinctum” for belt or girdle, in reference to the broad blackish stripe across the posterior caudal peduncle and the base of the caudal fin of this cardinal.
