Info
Pleurosicya coerulea is a small translucent goby with an overall brown to bluish coloration, which allows it to blend in well with its surroundings.
The species lives exclusively in a mutualistic symbiosis with the blue coral Heliopora coerulea.
Heliopora coerulea is brown on the outside, and only when part of the coral breaks off does the bluish inner part become visible.
Although there is no information available on the ecology and reproductive biology of this species, it is most likely short-lived (less than 1–2 years), as specialist Helen K. Larson suspects, based on the life cycles of similarly sized gobies.
