The shown photo of the damselfish Plectroglyphidodon flaviventris is from 1971 and was taken by Dr. John Randall, despite a long search on the internet we could not find a photo of a living perch.
In the excellent book "Guide des Poissons de Thaiti des ses îles" by Philippe Bachet, Thierry Zysman and Yves Lefèvre, a live perch is shown on page 365 above, which is visually different from Randall's photo.One major difference is a clearly visible great blue iris.The light and dark parts of the body are also proportionately very different.
Adults occur in outer reef slopes and passages, usually in association with the coral Pocillopora, generally with three to five individuals per coral head.
