Info

Günther, 1874

Chaetodon trichrous also commonly referred as Tahiti butterflyfish is endemic from southeast Polynesia (Tahiti and Tuamoto Islands). The front half of the Tahitian Butterflyfish has a gray coloration while the back half is dark brown to black. It has a black bar through the eyes and the caudal fin is gray.

The Tahiti butterflyfish are found primarily on lagoon reefs. They are usually paired and feed on primarily coral polyps.

Remarks:

Butterflyfish are not recommended for reefs as they will pick at or eat a wide variety of corals, fan worms, and other invertebrates. Most Butterflyfish are known to pick at Aiptaisia, a parasitic anemone.
